ICAN "Music That Heals" Salon Concert Series

There are so many phrases that describe the magic and the power of music.  Whether it soothes the savage beast, is the universal language of man or is the window through which the soul cries; it is impossible to argue that music is an amazing influence on the world and it's many cultures.  This concert was a clear example of this phenomenon, in both cause and effect.

The story dates back a few decades when a teller at a bank recognized the potential of the Grand Piano that was located in the bank's lobby through a generous donation.  The teller suggested that the bank find a pianist to play the piano during banking hours to create an ambiance for both employees  and customers.  The bank enlisted Ronald Jacobowitz to play once or twice that first week, and the change was incredible.  Bank employees were musically transported into a wonderful mood, bank customers who were on line were not impatient, grumpy or fidgety.  Everything seemed to just work better, so, the bank showcased Mr. Jacobowitz's talents on a somewhat regular basis.  That bank teller was Carmella Diamond Dodge, who, some twenty-plus years later, coordinated this Salon Concert Series event.  On Sunday, Jan 29th, 2012, the same pianist, and the same piano transported myself and dozens of listeners to a place far from the hustle and bustle of the American rat race; where life is easy and people are free of care.  I tell you it was truly magical.

Ronald Jacobowitz masterfully keyed out several of Beethoven's best known works; and a few lesser knowns.  Between pieces he also shared his extensive knowledge on the composer.  I left feeling as though I had met Ludvig, or one of his closer acquaintances.  And the piano music was downright angelic.

I want to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to Carmella for welcoming me to such a wonderful experience.  This day of beautiful music, great eats and good causes is not one I will soon forget.

The salon concert was to raise awareness for the International Cancer Advocacy Network (ICAN), a charity benefiting cancer patients and helping fund research.  BBVA Compass banks will donate fifty dollars to the cancer cause of your choice if you open an account with  them.  If you apply for a BBVA Compass Visa check card, BBVA compass will donate an additional .25% of every signature-based purchase you make with said card to your cause.

During the intermission, BBVA was kind enough to provide refreshments in the form of delicious deserts, cheese and crackers, wine, coffee and/or water.  That reminds me!  I gotta ask Carmella if she can get me the recipe for the Kahlua Brownies, of which I ate two... They were AMAZING!!

Peace and Love and Love and Peace :)
