Tempe Center for the Arts
Charles Dickens’ classic tale “A Christmas Carol” has been told and parodied and told again every which way from Sunday, so why does this fairly traditional telling at Tempe Center for the Arts feel so fresh? Chalk it up to Childsplay company member and acting powerhouse Katie McFadzen, who spices up her one-woman rendition of Dicken’s tale like a hot glass of holiday rum, injecting some serious physical comedy chops into the timeless tale of grumpy old Ebeneezer Scrooge and the three spirits who pay him visit on a cold Christmas Eve. Using little more than the original text and her tremendous storytelling abilities, she’ll have you hanging on every word as the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come take Scrooge on a heartwarming journey toward becoming a kinder, gentler human being.
