#2 Mirror Mirror On The Wall…

Who is the flakiest of them all? No other state puts the “F” in flaky like AZ. You know it’s true ,how many times have you made plans with someone, a date, meeting or contract only to later get a text, email or some electronic late or cancellation notice and even more commonly no notice at all? It’s evident, the CP time clocked for this state out matches the CP population IN the state. Perhaps it’s the laid back nature of the open air, slow pace of the west, or simply the I don’t give a (explicit) mindset. Either way it’s everywhere. Now I won’t say everyone is late or flaky or lacks integrity, But I will say we are far more relaxed than our eastern big sisters.

A business partner and friend put it this way: LOOK AT THE TREES. Really, look at them. Most trees here grow with it’s roots along the surface of the ground. Even the biggest, tallest trees can be found knocked over after a windy night exposing all its rootless glory. Now compare our trees to those grown back east.. say, Boston. Trees grow with roots growing deep down into the soil almost showing off an astute nobility, centered on being grounded .

You can blame it on a lot of things but we’re not the only ones running on our own time. Hawaii is also known for its “Hang Loose” attitude. But like a true Desert Diva we live by the rule of being fashionably late. Who else besides those laid back islanders can turn their nose up at that pesky Day-light saving nonsense? “No Thank you, we run on our own clocks”

#1 The “Jan” complex

“Marcia-Marcia-Marcia”. Oh poor Jan. Poor, poor Jan. What a tragedy to live in the shadows of her prettier more appealing, charming sisters. “Marcia” in all her glittery lights and “Cindy” with her charismatic beaches. It’s no wonder we live by our own rules with neighbors like Las Vegas and Los Angeles, like the middle child we’re begging for the attention we deserve. But don't dismiss us as underdogs,we all know what happens when someone goes ignored. A neglected teenager, Arizona screams “Look at me!”, “Listen to me!” demanding to be heard. And we’ll take any means necessary to do it including “Brewing” up some Jan-like controversy. Kicking and screaming, good ,bad or indifferent we definitely know how to get all eyes on us even if it is the evil eye.

At the end of the day you can love AZ or hate AZ. But,you've got to admit where we lack in culture we certainly make up for in  "BadAZZ-ness".
