Join us for SlutWalk Tempe- a march and rally to raise awareness about inaccurate and discriminatory attitudes toward victims of sexual violence.

Often legal authorities and our public service community will blame the victim of a sexually violent crime stating his/her behavior, dress or attitude is responsible for their own rape, sexual assault or harassment. This is not only untrue, but also ...creates a dangerous culture of excusing predators and rapists of their behavior.

SlutWalk is a grassroots, global action that has been held in cities across the planet. Starting in Toronto, after a Toronto police officer, while addressing a group of law students stated the best way to avoid sexual assault is to "stop dressing like sluts." Outraged students and Toronto citizens took to the streets, some in provocative clothing, carrying signs reading "It's not my fault" "Blame the rapist, not my skirt" "Consent is a YES, not a low cut blouse"

You MAY dress in your own personal interpretation of "slut wear" But you do not have to. Come as you are as we join together to defend our corporeal safety and demand the right to be taken seriously as victims in all circumstances of sexual violence!

Meet up at Tempe Beach Park, at the entrance located at the intersection of Mill Ave and Rio Salado. Bring signs or make one there. After the walk we will hold a brief rally to listen to advocates and survivors speak.
